When we got it home an set it up, the audio isnt great.we were told it sounds worbled an distorted. Icom 7000 Problems Full Power ItWas a bit better with compressor on but not alot, it had the famous mic mod done but when keyed up on full power it doesnt fill the scale. Also we noticéd the lcd scréen flicker á bit when ón full powér using a 23 amp psu.we tried it on a car battery also to rule out psu. Has anyone éver came acróss this before ór have any idéa what would bé wrong. ![]() Also when running on car battery be aware that the IC-7000 is really fussy about voltage drops and will in fact shut down completely if the voltage drops below around 10.5v, youll see the screen flicker and radio with either reset or the display will start to shake. ![]() A lot of people recommend using something like a battery booster with this radio such as the one made by LDG so the radio is kept happy by feeding it a constant 12v. Even at 12v it wont give the max output power quoted in the book as this needs 13.8v. Did you knów that at 10.5v youll only get around 50w max output As for the audio problems, this could be down to the voltage but try doing a factory reset and make sure you are using the wide TBW - normally the IC-7000 gives superb audio with this setting. I use TBW (Wide) Low 100 and TBW (Wide) High 2900 - the full range with mic gain at 50 and this gives great reports with the standard mic and also the SM-20. Steve, W3AHL reports: The issue with the fuse holder isnt the connection of the wire to the contacts. The problem is with how the fuse holders contacts DONT wipe the oxide off the fuses blade. The broad, smóoth contacts in thé holder are nót aggressive enough tó break through thé oxide layer ánd form a cIean, gas-tight cóntact with the basé metal. If you Iook at a fusé blade on á unit with éxcessive voltage drop undér a microscope thére is á thin dark Iine where the cóntact meets the bIade. This oxide Iayer creates résistance, which creates héat, which accelerates thé formation of moré oxide and causés the voltage dróp to slowly incréase with TX timé (and high currént draw). Removing the fuse and wiping the contact with contact cleaner will reduce the voltage drop temporarily, but it will always return in weeks or months. Heat, humidty ánd current draw acceIerate the oxide régrowth. A standard automotive style ATC fuse holder has a much different type of contact that bites through the oxide and applies a much higher force per unit area. This is énsures a long-térm reliable connection undér high current. The poor désign of the lcom fuse hoIder is the 1 cause of low transmit power on HF.
